Behind every video game, there’s a story. Some begin with massive studios and million-dollar budgets; others, like Rally Arcade Classics, are born from the passion of a small team that chose to bet on their vision. What started as an indie project between friends who love racing games is now a solid reality: an arcade rally game available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
The development of Rally Arcade Classics was a journey in itself. At Netk2, we knew tackling our first video game would be a major challenge. It wasn’t just about creating a fun product, but about learning—and mastering—every part of the process: programming, design, optimization, marketing, and most importantly, understanding the player. Fortunately, our excitement was stronger than our fears. And every step of the way, no matter how hard, brought valuable lessons.
From the very beginning, we had a clear idea: to create the game we would love to play ourselves. We’ve been lifelong gamers, especially fans of the racing genre. Classics like Sega Rally, Colin McRae, and Rally Sport Challenge shaped our youth, and we wanted to pay tribute to them by capturing their essence while also adding our own identity.
In Rally Arcade Classics, gameplay takes center stage. We went for simple, responsive controls—easy to pick up from the first race, but with a difficulty curve that keeps you challenged. Our goal was for anyone to enjoy the game right away, while also offering enough depth for the more dedicated players.
A turning point in our development was our appearance at IndieDEV, where we showcased the game to the public for the first time. We received tons of feedback, constructive criticism, and ideas. Listening to the community was crucial. We decided to implement many of those suggestions in future builds, refining the experience into what has now become a game that, according to players themselves, keeps them hooked for dozens of hours.
In the highly competitive Steam market, Rally Arcade Classics has slowly gained players, with a very low refund rate. That’s a clear sign to us: those who try it, stay. On consoles, the response was even better. We launched a free demo, and thousands of people started downloading it every day. That reception blew us away and motivated us to keep pushing forward.
On the technical side, the game was developed in Unity. One of our top priorities was ensuring a smooth experience, and we’re proud to have achieved a consistent 60 fps on all platforms, including Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. That performance is key to delivering the sense of speed and control we were aiming for.
We also paid close attention to the game’s visual style. At first, the look was highly stylized, but over time we began incorporating more realistic elements. The result is a visual balance we love: a game with its own personality, but with a level of realism that gives it depth. That mix helps us stand out in the crowded indie racing scene.
But beyond the technical side, what really made this project special was the team. Each of us brought our own vision and talents, working in parallel but always in sync. We learned to coordinate efforts, make tough decisions, and stay true to the original idea—even as it evolved. For many of us, this has been a transformative experience, both professionally and personally.
Creating Rally Arcade Classics was a two-year journey filled with challenges and triumphs. What started as a dream has become a reality, one that’s connected us with thousands of people who share our passion. And while we’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, we know this is only the beginning.
Our commitment is to keep listening to the community, keep improving the game, and above all, keep creating. We already have new ideas and future titles in mind, and everything we’ve learned on this project will be the foundation for what’s coming next.
So, if you’re into rally games, if you’re looking for a fun, challenging arcade experience—or if you just want to support passionate indie developers—Rally Arcade Classics is for you. We promise speed, adrenaline… and many hours of gameplay fun.
